FAQs:

What causes an infection in the pulp of a tooth?
When bacteria enters your tooth through cavities, cracks or flawed fillings, your tooth can develop an infection in the pulp. If this happens, the infection must be removed otherwise it can cause serious oral health problems.

How is a root canal done?
The dentist or endodontist will give you an anesthetic to freeze your mouth. Then, a rubber dam will be placed around the tooth being treated to protect it from bacteria in your saliva during the treatment. Next, an opening in the tooth will be created to reach the root canal system and the damaged pulp. The dentist will carefully remove the pulp and after the canal has been cleaned, the dentist will fill and seal it. Lastly, the tooth opening is sealed with a temporary or permanent filling.

Is the root canal treatment painful?
Root canal Vancouver treatments don’t cause pain, it relieves it. Root canals are similar to having a filling placed. Since the dentist will administer an aesthetic, you will not experience any pain. In fact, patients who have had root canal treatments are six times more likely to describe it as being “painless” than those who have not had the treatment.

How long does the restored tooth last?
With proper care, the restored tooth can last a lifetime. However, tooth decay can still occur in the treated teeth so good oral hygiene and regular dental exams are necessary.
